Old Mirror to Chalk Board

My in-laws have a bunch of random stuff in their basement (and by a bunch I mean 98159653 things they don't need) so while looking at some of the junk, I found this really old mirror. It was in pretty rough shape and had obviously been sitting for awhile. I asked if I could have it and my mother in-law was more than happy to get it out of her basement!

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it until I realized it would be perfect for a chalk board! Bonus, quality time with the hubby :) Anyways we went to Lowe's picked up some sand paper, spray chalk board paint, and spray paint for the frame. (Tip; We use spray paint to paint almost everything because it comes out with a smoother finish and no worrying about brush lines!) This mirror was so old it was a piece of cake to take apart, so we didn't have to tape anything!

  • We sanded the frame and we painted it a "hammered copper" look, I LOVE it!
  • With the mirror I was concerned the chalk board paint wouldn't stick, so I flipped it around and painted the back!
  • My husband did the handy work in putting it back together and making a new back for the frame!

I am so happy with how it turned out! We will be hanging it in out kitchen to leave little notes for each other, reminders for groceries, and events! It was a super easy project and didn't take much time at all! Share with me what you chalk board paint :)
