Konersmann Chili Recipe

Finally, it's chilly enough outside for Chili!! Now that I am married and my mom is no longer cooking for me, I like to create my own recipes! Of course building off my mothers basics, because she's a fabulous cook! I've always loved cooking and getting creative, my husband will probably say that's one of the reasons he married me, because he LOVES to eat! I try and keep it healthy or at least use fresh ingredients if I can! Having a garden is very helpful when trying to keep it fresh! This was my first time making chili with my own ingredients, I thought it could use a little more heat (I love spicy anything) but my husband loved it as is!

What you'll need;
  • 1 lb of ground meat (I use deer meat)
  • 1 can chili beans
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 can baked beans (adds some sweetness)
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 2  green pepper
  • 1 large onion
  • 6 or more banana peppers (6 is all we had)
  • 2 tbs of chili powder
  • Dash of pepper
  • Dash of salt
  • Garlic Seasoning

Process;
  • Chop onions and toss in skillet to caramelize a little
  • Then toss in ground beef to brown
  • Drain meat, unless using deer meat (deer meat has very little grease!)
  • I coat the meat with garlic seasoning (My husband LOVES garlic seasoning)
  • Once done, put in crock pot
  • Chop peppers (Kitchen Aide Pulse came in handy for this and the onions, no tears!)
  • Dice tomatoes
  • Drain black beans
  • I combine all ingredients left
  • Let cook for 4-5 hours on low
and you're done! Add some shredded cheese, crackers, Frito's, whatever you want just enjoy!

Took about 15-20 minutes of prep work and put it all in the crock pot, I went back to stir every once in awhile, but I didn't have to do a thing until dinner time! So quick and easy! Don't knock it til you try it! Feel free to give some suggestions on how you cook your chili or try mine and tell me what you think!

  1. Sounds amazing Brittany! I have never thought about adding baked beans to chili... mmm! :) My husband and I have realized how much salt is in canned beans and canned tomato sauce/paste. We started buying dried beans and soaking them over night for chili... I know it takes longer but it is so much healthier! Also, I try to go with a no-salt added tomato sauce :) Keep up the recipes! It looks excellent!

  2. Thanks Manda! I would much prefer to use dried beans! I've been using whatever we have to get it out for now! (I hate canned anything!) Next I make chili I will try that and let you know how it goes! :)
